With the festive season firmly behind us, we are already enjoying more light at the end of the day; the promise of things to come. Observing our rambler snacks and picnics it seems everyone is eating up their Christmas excess with biscuits and chocolates emerging from rucksacks - fortunately no turkey sandwiches have been spotted thus far!
The new year has brought us some varied walking conditions, from freezing fog, ice, snow, rain and strong winds to blue skies and sunshine, but it is the mist, fog and grey skies that have dominated the scene for some time now. This has not dampened our spirits or deterred our group from enjoying some fabulous walks, even if the “wonderful views” are not always visible on occasion. The winter aconites are flowering, and the snowdrops have emerged which never fail to put a smile on faces.
We started our new walking year with a breakfast walk from the Horse & Jockey on Watling Street and since then we have walked from Bledlow, Ridgmont, Wiggington, Cholesbury and Ivinghoe with walks still to come from Ashridge, Potten End and Harlington. We are seeing good numbers on all our walks and hopefully this trend is not just fuelled by those new year resolutions!
We are looking forward to our Annual Dinner on 15th February which is being held at the Axe & Compass in Heath & Reach. A few places are still available for any members wishing to attend.
We have an exciting year to come as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary as Leighton Buzzard Ramblers. We are hoping to organise several events to commemorate this landmark and further details will be announced in due course.
