At long last we are walking in sunshine! Some frosty starts and of course lots of mud but spring is on its way. We have been treated to stunning displays of snowdrops, and it won’t be long before we see lambs, bluebells, cowslips, beautiful wildflower meadows and …… nettles! We are surrounded by varied and beautiful countryside so is it any wonder we love walking so much? Come and join us - we are a super friendly group and always look forward to welcoming new walkers.
Our March and April programme has some fantastic walks on offer, including a series of shorter, slower-paced walks for those who are no longer comfortable walking longer distances, or for those looking to test their fitness levels. For these walks, we have also put in place arrangements to assist anyone who does not drive or is not comfortable driving to places they do not know. Further details can be found in the walks programme (see above). Don’t forget we also lead the increasingly popular Wellbeing Walks which take place on Mondays (60 mins), Wednesdays (30 mins) and Thursdays (90 mins). These are all local walks and are the perfect way to improve fitness and wellbeing and end with an opportunity for refreshments in a local pub. (See above for further information.)
As well as favourite walks on our doorstep, we will be visiting Aston Clinton, Wiggington, Silsoe, Old Warden, Flamstead, Toddington, Cheddington, Chesham, Aspley Guise, Deanshanger, Studham, Breachwood Green, Ashley Green and Great Missenden. We do get around a bit don’t we! We will also be taking the opportunity to “survey” the footpath network in the parishes of Stanbridge and Tilsworth on 6th April.
We had a full house for our Annual Dinner on 15th February at the Axe & Compass when we took the opportunity to recognise a few of our unsung heroes with some light-hearted awards. A great evening was had by all.
Our Scarborough Social Evening takes place on Saturday 22nd March at 7pm at Linslade Community Hall, when we will discuss plans for our Spring break in May and also enjoy a bring and share buffet.
Ten of our hardy members braved the rain and mud last month to try their hand at pétanque (big marbles!) at the Axe & Compass. Lots of boule thrown, several pétanque naturals unearthed and one epic comeback made it a very enjoyable morning.
This is a BIG year for LB Ramblers as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary in October. We have plans to celebrate this milestone anniversary throughout the year. Details will be announced as plans get finalised so do check the website and our social pages for updates. But for now, keep free the evening of Saturday 4th October and bring family and friends to what our social secretary describes as a “musical extravaganza”!
“Oh, how can I put into words the joys of a walk over country such as this; the scenes that delight the eyes, the blessed peace of mind, the sheer exuberance which fills your soul as you tread the firm turf?............. “ Alfred Wainwright
